Clients discharging from C.A.R.S. residential program can do so with newly achieved academic credentials. Through a partnership with Tompkins Seneca Tioga (TST) BOCES, a General Educational Development instructor provides six hours of GED exam preparation at C.A.R.S. Trumansburg residential facility weekly, providing residents the option of preparing for and taking their GED exams. Since the partnership began, many program participants have successfully prepared for and passed their GED exams.
One former program participant stated,
“Getting my GED here at C.A.R.S. feels unreal. I never thought I would get the chance to while at the same time getting clean. With this accomplishment I can get better jobs I was previously unable to go for. The program here is run by Jen. She is a great teacher, staying attentive and supportive with her wide range of knowledge. I’ve seen her turn many clients here into success stories. Now that I can enroll myself into college, I truly feel like I can achieve my dreams. Thank you C.A.R.S. for this ‘leg up’ in the world.”
Rachel Marsit, C.A.R.S. residential vocational counselor, adds, “C.A.R.S. values education, and the opportunity to partner with TST BOCES allows us to help clients achieve life-changing success in that area. It takes incredible drive and focus to pursue recovery, much less recovery in tandem with academic work. We are delighted to continue to support our clients in this way.”
